X-Plane for iPhone

I've downloaded X-Plane and all of its variants for the iPhone.

It's astounding that such high-quality flight simulation is available for a mobile device.

Across the software's various editions, dozens of aircraft and airports are available, functioning IFR instrument panels can be used to fly approaches in all wind and visibility conditions, flight dynamics are solid, and graphics are as good as a desktop flight simulator from a decade ago.

The flight controls respond to the iPhone's gyroscopic sensors, so you fly by moving the device as if it were a yoke.

All this without mentioning that multiple users across one WiFi network can fly in the same environment, racing or enjoying the scenery in formation.

Good stuff. See attached screenshots.

I play the airliner version quite often on the iTouch. I only practice landings though, which requiers more skill. Graphics, flight dynamics, controls etc are impressive, but flying around can get a bit boring. The controls are pretty sensitive and needs fine movements from the hands. Would recommend it to any one that has the iphone/touch.

Yeah, during landing the iPhone seems to get very sensitive. And the enroute flying is boring. But a good APP for any pilot.

I got a ton of great Aviation Apps on my iphone, including AOPA airports and fighter games! I previously had this ATC game where you clicked on the plane with your finger and dragged you finger to whatever route he was requesting! And the best part is they were all free hahahah yeah im a freeloader when it comes to APPS :P

I too discovered a new sim on the iphone. I got an iPod touch and downoaded X-Plane and F-Sim. Teh controls are a bit difficult if you are not used to but after some time you really get a feeling for the planes.
Anyone tried the X-Plane helicopter? I never ever flew in a helicopter in my life so at least I should do that on my ipod

Got the airline version and tried it. Very very nice. A bit over-sensitive during approach(low speeds) but then again I found out the good old flying technique works - If you don't do anything the plane will fly it right. The instability during approach is caused by seemingly delayed flight control response with no reduced effectiveness. For pilots this can be confusing. Specially for those who fly big planes. The plane is flying slow, and the controls are late to respond when you move them. However the latency is not proportionate to their effectiveness (it seems that at low energy modes they are actually a lot more effective than in high energy modes) apparently due to some bug in the control response.

Just through Google. I believe you were one of the first, if not the first, results.
