Discount Pilot Shop

I just wanted to introduce myself to everyone.

I operate a small discount pilot shop, and wanted to let more people know about it. Basically this grew from the need to help my students find pilot supplies and gear at the best prices I could. I would tell them I knew a few places to check (Marv Golden's, A/S's, and the like) and I would email them the best price I found.

This quickly grew into the addition of Horizons Pilot Shop to my web site.

I hope no one thinks I'm intruding, just wanted to let you know I'm out there. Should you ever need anything be sure to look me up.

Horizons Pilot Shop

PS - My intent is to be the lowest price around. If you ever see anything for less, please let me know and I'll do my best to help you.

Vlad Arm,

What kind of a problem did you have with the pilot shop? Most of my items are listed at a discount, I try to price below organizations like A/S and Sportys.

I am still adding products daily, up to about 1800 so far. I do try to discount most things but until I can research everything I may just add products for people to be able to find what they are looking for.

As I have said quite openly if you see something advertised for less, let me know and I'll try to help you. I have taken losses selling items just to help get my name out there and grow the pilot shop. I have even taken a suspension from one of my suppliers for posting an item under their pricing policy after being turned in by someone on the forum.

What is it you were looking for, perhaps I can be of help?

Here I went there, put some price, did some research...
Here are several items from your website and what i found on others

Lightspeed-Zulu Headset - Free Shipping - 850$ - available on ebay for the same price
Small Aluminum Flight Computer - E6B - 23.95 -- available on ebay for 21.95
Student Computer - Plastic 12.65 --- available onebay for 15.00 (comes with plotter)
ON TOP ELITE BASIC ATD $4,495 --- same price on manufacturer's website
ELITE PREMIUM SOFTWARE V8.1 - 499.95 ------ 499 on manufacturer's website
ON TOP VERSION 9.5/CD-ROM 149.95 ----- same price on asa's website
SPOT SATELLITE MESSENGER SALE PRICE 135.51 ---- THE SPOT-2 YOU HAVE GOT LISTED HAS A RECALL ON ALL OF THE UNITS. COMPANY OFFERS VOLUNTARY RETURN, OR EXCHANGE (With exchanges being available soon). the older unit is offered for $100 with $50 rebate

Once, again, the prices are regular.

'A discounted shop' claim should at least be 10-20% consistent discount. This is not the case on your website.

If you are saying you have been taking losses trying to get your name out, it means that even if you had any discounted items, they are going to be taken out pretty soon.

And yes 1$ 2$ discount doesn't count. Nor the MSRP.

This is a free website for pilots and aviation enthusiasists to come and get USEFUL information. I see nothing special about your shop.

And, yes I understand you are trying to make money out there. Good luck with that, but it's against' this forums policies to use it for your own financial gain. It would be tolerated if youd' be giving back somehow (by, lets say -- having REAL discounted prices), but this is not the case once again.

You are free to have the link to your website in your signature, and/or even small remark "Get your pilot supplies here", but having a thread about it, in my opinion, is flooding.

Vlad,

I'm glad you checked into all of this and I certainly hope you don't take this the wrong way. I set the pilot shop up to help students and pilots alike with their supplies. I have most items discounted up to 20% and then I often run additional promotions to give you 5% more off.

As I stated I am still adding inventory daily. The normal pilot supplies have been posted at a discounted price. If someone wants to purchase a Flight Simulator they are listed at the normal prices. These items have to come from other suppiers.

Lightspeed ZULU's (funny you mention) I was suspended as a dealer for 90 days for selling them for less than their required Minimum Advertised Price and still serving out my suspension (not a very Merry Christmas). I actually went to other dealers to complete my orders and took the loss in the name of doing good business. Nothing esle I can do there, except lose my dealership if I discount them again.

Plotters and planners are all made by different companies. I have cheaper ones, and more expensive ones. I don't think that you will find the same one for less, but it is possible. I have not been set up to sell on ebay, when I do consider this approach I will be sure to try to stay beneath them if possible.

In short - I am trying to get as much as I can listed at this point so someone doesn't find the shap and then not find what they are looking for. For the normal person purchasing maps, flashlights, glasses, planning tools, kneeboards, training kits, headsets, and more.... you will find my prices to be very competitive. I intend to be able to make this a one stop shopping site, so whether you are flying a home built or a certified airframe I should have the items you need personally and for your hangar and aircraft. As I said I have about 1800 products listed, I have nearly 27,000 to go. It takes me approximately 1 hour to list 5 products, so you do the math.

May I ask one question?

What have I ever done to you to deserve such an attack???

You haven't done me anything personally.
Nor I am in business of selling aircraft/pilot supplies.
However, i am STRONGLY AGAINST FALSE ADVERTISEMENT. No, hold up.. not a FALSE one but a deceiving one....

I never argued that your prices were competitive, i said that they ARE NOT DISCOUNTED, and that's a false statement to make.
