Unfortunately, Vlad, you are the exception. The ones that I have heard saying this are generally guys that have had a few hours of hood training and figure that they have been flying for 20 yrs, and know that their airplane so well that they would be able to control it no matter what.

You bring up a very good point about currency, though, Vlad. Even if you've got an IFR ticket, if you don't use it frequently or have little real IMC time, you still should be very cautious about what IMC you go in (i.e. "hard" IFR - approach to mins). If you lived around here you'd have a much easier time deciding to spend the money for the IFR ride - we get lots of really low weather around here, and the general consensus is that if you want to go very far over more that one day, either have an IFR ticket or be prepared to be delayed a lot ("Time to spare? Go by air!")
