Any body have any idea how to get started by getting ham radio hand held up and running on the radio system in a general aviation aircraft?

Hi, I run 2m simplex frequently from my Ercoupe. I plug my headset into a Yaesu handheld aviation-band radio that also has Amateur 2m capability and connect it to the airplane antenna. The airplane antenna is close to 2m tuning and works perfectly. You could also use the rubber ducky antenna.

Don't work repeaters from the air. You will bring up repeaters for many hundreds to thousands of miles, really jam up the system.
